The main function that anchors fulfill in maritime life is no secret to anyone; It is what makes a boat almost immobile, or at least, keeps it in the same place even if it rocks. The same happens with the human being; We choose to load anchors and drop them to stay static in a place called the conformity zone.

I was recently invited to dinner in a rather elegant house, compared to the houses that are common in the town where I live.

— What are you going to do tonight?

— Same as last night. See that I can cook to eat and then go to sleep; My wife is away, and she won't be back for a month.

— Great! Then it's a good time for you to go and have dinner with us at home, and this way you get to know my family. Know? I have told them a lot about you, about everything you do at work, the plans to start your own business, and the decision to study programming languages to create a new source of income.

— It must be great to eat together with your family. It will be a pleasure to accompany you! What time will you come for me?

— At 7 you must be ready. See you.

I finished pruning some rose bushes, and while I was doing it, I remembered when I was planting them with her... with that splendid lady who captured my whole being with the most tender smile; I have never been able to forget the moment I saw her for the first time... There I began to believe that the angels became human to give us a bit of happiness when our lives are somewhat empty.

I looked for the best clothes I had; Of course, I wanted to make a good impression as my friend is from a very wealthy family and I didn't want to embarrass him by looking unkempt.

At 6:30 pm I was already ready and waiting almost impatiently. He wanted to know the impression it would make on the de la Vega family, who came from Mexico many years ago and established themselves as businessmen.

When my friend arrived, he told me:

Why so formal?

— The first impression is what counts. I told him without hesitation.

We got into the vehicle and headed for the house; The Big House, as it was known in the town.

— The guest has arrived, let's go to the table.

A rectangular table with 8 places; 3 on each side and a chair at each end. A shiny white tablecloth covered the table, and on it, plates, glasses, and food were distributed evenly along the table.

A short prayer was made, not to bless the food, but to give thanks for the opportunity to share the table with someone. When finished, everyone except me took a container and began to help themselves, passing the containers to each other when they had finished taking the portion they wanted.

— Oneray, can you pass me the salad? Said the dad with his baritone voice, but in a very soft and pleasant tone.

"Of course," I said instantly.

All the trays passed through all hands, including mine, and when everyone was served, we began to eat.

Halfway through dinner, my phone rang. A call was coming in. I tried to take my phone out of my pocket to answer, but realizing that they were looking at me somewhat dismayed by what I was thinking of doing, I gave up the idea and continued eating.

The conversation during the meal was very pleasant: Memories of the youth in the university, when the children were children, successes and failures of life; Then he turned his gaze in my direction, and said:

"I'll tell you something, Oneray. In life, there are many things that can limit us, and even keep us stuck in one place. For some, they are memories clinging to the past and longing to relive, but they only do that, remember. Others, on the contrary, get stuck thinking about the future and live a life full of stress, for fear of failing, they do not try to succeed. Am I explaining myself?

Without saying a word, I nodded my head; I knew that the words that followed could be of great benefit to me.

— In the past, before all this technology engulfed us, we used to talk until midnight, because it was the only way to share. There was no internet, mobile phones, or anything that could divert our attention from people who are in the here and now. So, socializing through a pleasant conversation was the only way to share our secrets and our dreams.

He paused briefly to clear his throat a little more, and went on to say:

— I have seen families destroyed by the mere fact that, when sitting at the table to eat, each one has a mobile phone in their hand; There is no communion among those present, but each one is absorbed in their own social networks, in their own world, anchored to a life that does not belong to them. They only want the action they see in the movies, the fake life that the so-called influencers live, and do those things that they do not dare to do in public; But over the phone, they are capable of doing anything. Do you realize? Their life revolves around their phone, with which they can have a life anchored in the nonconformity of their comfort zone. One of the brightest minds said: «I fear the day when technology surpasses our humanity. The world will only have one generation of idiots» And it seems that this genius already glimpsed in his time what was going to happen in the future, and if we look closely, Albert Einstein, or whoever said this phrase, had the reason.

And he went on to say:

— The human being is a social being, and by not socializing with someone, he will do it with anything, and we are allowing our children, to avoid being bothered, we give them a mobile to be "entertained" without fully understanding that the internet, they can find things that affect their healthy development. We cannot afford to live anchored to a mobile, anxious because we know that we have received a message, and we have not opened it, or because we receive notifications identified by a sound, and we stop doing what is important, but succumb to the trivial, eliminating all possibility of reasoning and elevation of the spirit for a more advanced evolution of the human being. This is the reason why we do not allow (we are all aware of this) to use our phones at the table when eating, or when we come home, and it is time to spend with the family; We do not want to be part of that generation of idiots who drop out of school to become an influencer who only live off the opinion of others by waiting for them to "Like" what they have just posted online. We must use our phones for what they are: Communication tools, and not as the masters of our way of living and behaving in society and in the family nucleus.

It was there, at that precise moment, that my eyes opened to a new reality. Can I communicate with my wife because I am traveling? Of course! But my life does not depend on what they post on social media, or on the videos that go viral with so many views. I can live without it, and surely, without anxiety or stress.

Starting today, I will be the owner of my time and I will have control over my emotions regardless of the circumstances that surround me at that moment. I will not be a slave to a mobile again, on the contrary, a mobile will never replace anyone in my life, to feel alone while I am surrounded by people who love and value me.

From that night on, I go to the big house once or twice a week, to share with the people who have become part of my family.

¿Me estoy explicando?
