Why do I care so much about freedom, liberty and the Constitution?
Why? Because, I have children, one of them has a child and I'm going to assume they all will have children and their children will have children and so on, down the line.
I am 48 and a cancer survivor, I still don't take great care of my body or health. I'm not going to be around forever, most likely before anything terrible happens to this nation that we know. My children and grandchildren will be around for a long, long time though, as long as a nuclear holocaust, asteroid or Yellowstone doesn't erupt.
I care because as a human we're supposed to have certain rights. Those rights are spelled out in the Constitution. The Constitution is supposed to limit what the government can do, not tell us what we're allowed to do.
I care because too many of you, American voters, seem to only care about what is good for you RIGHT NOW. Hell, Trump or Hillary would probably be great for me, right? I work in the oil industry and war is good for the oil industry. Especially if the war is in the Middle East and we can't readily get Middle Eastern oil to our shores.
Too many of you, American voters, only listen to what Fox, CNN, MSNBC, the national network news tells you. Depending on your favorite channel, you don't question what this guy says or doesn't say. We just blindly go along and say well......XXXXXX is better than XXXXXX or I'm going to pick the lesser of two evils, which when coming from a Christian would be hilariously funny if it weren't so damned scary. Seriously, if Stalin had been a democrat this last election and Hitler a republican one of them would have won. It blows my mind that Americans refuse to do 5 or 10 minutes of research a day on what Clinton or Trump said that day. They expect to find out every thing in a 30 second story on the news, before the news moves on to the latest shooting, fire or hurricane.
Why is it that the right(conservatives) only SEEM to care about the 2nd Amendment, they don't care that Trump says he'd be willing to "look into" reinstating the Patriot Act and it's data collection on EVERY SINGLE one of us, which by the way encompasses much more than just the number your specific phone has dialed. They don't care that Jeff Session, who works for Trump is working to expand civil asset forfeiture, that, if you don't know is where an agent of the state confiscates your assets, quite often without even charging you with a crime, simply because they have a reason to SUSPECT that you've done something illegal to get said assets. They don't care that Trump has said that he wants to EXPAND stop and frisk.
Slippery slopes, all of it. The government doesn't typically scale back on their intrusions into your lives.
I like to use the seat belt law evolution in Michigan to explain what I mean. In Michigan several years ago they put forth legislation that passed which said that the driver of a vehicle must wear his seat belt. Initially, you couldn't be pulled over if you were simply not belted, you would first have to commit another infraction in order to be pulled over. Speeding, tail light out, licence plate not illuminated, cracked windshield, something besides the seatbelt infraction. Then, after several months, maybe a year...not quite sure the timeline, all front seat passengers had to be belted. That wasn't enough though. They THEN decided to make a seat belt infraction a PRIMARY reason to be pulled over, no longer did you have to do something else wrong to get a seat belt ticket, they could simply pull you over if they didn't see the shoulder strap over your shoulder. Still not satisfied, the state decided that everyone under 16 or 18 had to be belted no matter where they sat in the vehicle and finally, to cap it all off, they said EVERYONE in ANY SEAT has to be belted at all times when the vehicle is in motion.
This is how the state works, this is how they SLOWLY chip away at your freedom and liberty. It's quite often so slow that you don't even realize it's happening, you become the frog in the cooking pot. Before you know it, you're cooked.
So, when Democrats say that they don't want to ban guns, don't believe them. The ultimate goal is to ban firearms. When the Republicans say they don't want to totally ban abortion, don't believe them. The ultimate goal is to ban abortion, even in cases of rape and incest.
We have to take a stand, Americans....or we will become the frog.
