It was an overcast day and I decided to head to the lake for some fresh air and some walking. Considering the weather, it was unlikely that there would be a lot of people there. There weren't. Within minutes of arriving the sky opened up and rain started to pour down. I sat in my car contemplating what to do next.
Fortunately, the rain stopped after only a few minutes. So, I grabbed my umbrella and threw open the car door. The sky looked like it could open up again at any moment. My camera was with me as well. But, given the conditions, I didn't expect there would be much to film.
Very shortly into my walk, I stumbled across this feather on the path.
Normally, I would just keep walking right by, which is what I did before stopping myself. This will probably be the best image I'll get today, I thought. Walking back, I whipped out the camera and started rolling on this gull feather. Behold! 😲
Continuing to stroll along the lake, something became noticeably clear to me, people were a lot more friendly that day. Every person I crossed paths with said hello or good morning to me. Most of the time, people tend to keep to them selves. Maybe it was just the fact that there were less people. Or maybe it was the fact that, given the weather conditions, the people who were there were the "hardcore" park people. We tend to be friendlier to people who share our interests. I don't know the why, but it was pleasant to experience.
At some point I noticed a chittery commotion to my right. I glanced over to see a scurry of squirrels running frantically around the park. There were about 10 of them, and they were running back and forth, up and down trees, and across picnic tables. They seemed to be having a blast without all the humans there.
There was so much excited chittering going on. It was fun just to stand there and watch. One of the squirrels even helped me out with a psychological experiment. Are you up to the challenge? Because, only people with a genius level IQ can spot the squirrel in the optical illusion below. Good luck!...
As much as I wanted to join them in running and jumping around the park, I had to bid adieu to the scurrying squirrels. There was still plenty of walking ahead of me and it could start raining at any moment. Farewell, squirrels!
It was maybe another 10 minutes of walking when I suddenly heard a loud whistling call just to my right. I was at a part of the path that gets petty close to the lake. And, perched atop a bush growing at the edge of the lake, was a bird that I've seen in my back yard. A bird that I have posted about before. A fox sparrow.
As I stood there filming, the little sparrow kept on singing it's song. When I continued on my walk, I could still hear it's voice fading behind me.
There ended up being much more to film that day than I had anticipated. And I would have been happy with what I had captured up to this point. But, Mother Nature wasn't done with me just yet. I expected to see geese during my excursion. And I did see them. However, I hadn't considered the number of goslings that would be there.
And, man, were they there. As per usual, the geese were right next to the walking path, making it really easy to film them. In fact, I got so close once, that some goslings started to honk uneasily before settling back down again. The adults eyed me intently. One of them actually made a hissing noise at me. I didn't know they did that.
I will close this post with some cute goslings. Thank you for reading!
