The horn of a car blared across the gate. I had just switched to the good part of the dream when I was being awoken by a car horn. Stretching my arms above my head and yawning, I made to move to the balcony of my apartment to have a peep at who it was. But then realization struck me.
This building didn’t have a gate, it was the next house.
It was still dark; the sun hadn’t come out yet so I picked up my glasses and checked the time on the digital clock beside my bed. It was 3:00. Three O’clock was said to be the devil’s hour. Sighing, I peeped through my window to have a look at the building again. It was a grey tall building with a lot of windows. They were endless. Scanning through the area, I searched for the car, squinting my eyes to see clearly but I couldn’t see it. I was going back to bed when something caught my eyes.
A silhouette?
It was a man. I couldn’t exactly make out what he was wearing but he was dressed in a button up shirt, I think. I stayed beside my window stalking him till I got weirded out by myself. Getting ready to move, I looked up to glance at the figure once more but this time a shiver went through my bones. He was directly staring at me or it seemed he was. Quickly, I pulled the curtain of my window and ran back underneath the covers of my bed. My heart was beating oddly fast now, letting my mind wonder. Who was that?
It was sadly, another day. My phone lit up with a notification. It was my birthday and my mum wished me a happy one. I haven’t been happy on this day for eight years. Today was no different from other days. All the days of the week were the same to me. Each having one unsurprisingly, another yet life changing problem, stacked up in a mystery box, readying to pop out any moment, anytime soon. I took a deep breath in and struggled to get out of my bed, physically and mentally. The world was burning and it was taking me with it.
Opening the door to the bathroom, I walked to the toilet sink and stared at myself in the mirror in front of me. I had bags under my eyes. My eyebrows were getting fuller as the day went and my shoulder length hair sat ruffled on my head. The door of the bathroom closed with a creak as I walked out to my bedroom. Staring at the time, I had already decided I was not going to school today. One part of my brain is worried about them taking attendance but I shove it back to a bottomless pit. This isn’t high school. No one would care if I end up dead in a dumpster somewhere.
Friends? I had none. I found it really comfortable not caring about anything or anyone. It was really peaceful and the fun part was, it gave me enough alone time to fantasize on how my death is going to be. Alone, cold and with a smile on my face. The corner of my lips rose into a smirk as I walked towards my computer and search on YouTube,One thousand ways to die.
I didn’t have a death wish; I didn’t want to die, not yet to say the least. Some people in school would to refer me as deranged. They were wrong. I was a psychopath.
The lights in my room turned off all of a sudden. Just when I was getting ready to start fussing and cursing, it comes back up. It was near dark now. Looking outside, I realized the sky had darken but not completely and utterly dark, the moon was out in the sky not fully. I had spent the rest of the day in my room doing miscellaneous stuff, writing some codes and sleeping. Plopping down back on my bed, I stared at the ceiling. It was white and oddly the only bit of bright colour in this room.
A cold breeze hits my skin, pulling a shiver out of me. Furrowing my brows, I sat up on my bed to glance at the window beside me to find it open, the curtains fighting violently with the cold night air. The crease in between my eyebrows deepened.
That wasn't open,or so it was?
Groaning cause of the fact I'd have to stand to shut them close, I walked to close the windows. There I spotted a silhouette.
The silhouette from earlier? I wasn't sure.
My doubt was cleared when it felt like he was staring at me.It is you. Tilting my head, curiously, I stared at him. Once again, he was dressed cooperate and it felt like he was smirking at me. Sighing, I walked to my closet and pulled a black hoodie over my head to match the grey boy shorts I was on. I hadn't planned on going anywhere today but it wouldn't hurt if I moved ten feets or more, away from my room.It would definitely hurt.
Pulling the hood over my head, I thought this was a stupid idea, a really dumb one. But as I moved down the stairs, it felt like something or someone was drawing me to the silhouette, this person. I huffed, unable to stop myself from myself from carrying out this mission. Walking out of the building that housed most students that decided to stay off campus, I walked down to the fenced house and stopped dead in my tracks. It's a fenced house, I didn't think of that.
Letting my shoulders down, I made a U- turn to go back to where I came from when I spotted a perron at the side of the building.
The roof-access staircase stayed hidden in the darkened walkway as I moved over to it. Ignoring all the voices in my head telling me to go back, I go up the stairs.
I see him. His back to me, he was seated on some kind of railing or iron bench. "Suicidal? Check", I said sarcastically, making my presence known as I stepped cautiously towards him. But something told me he already knew I was here the minute I stepped foot on this roof.
"What gave me away?", He replied dryly, still refusing to look back at me. I couldn't see his face from where I was but I could definitely see he was on a white button up shirt and he had jet black hair.
When I thought those where the only features I was getting to see of him, he turned around, still seated on his metal bench but this time, he was facing me. Pausing whatever wanted to come out of my mouth that moment, I took his features in. He had a sharp, defined jaw line and a pretty face but that was all it. Emphasis on the pretty face though.
He was staring at me. Probably doing the same thing I was doing, going through my features. I was about to snap at him when he took his eyes off me and glanced at the next building,my building.
"No school hostel,huh?"
I shrugged, “I hate people".
He tilts his head to the side, prying more information from me.
"Staying in campus would mean me sharing a room. And people tend to get on my nerves often, very often", I stressed out the last two words.
Smirking, he stared at me. Trying to figure me out, I presumed. Another cold breeze hit me, making me scrunch my nose. " You come out here, why?", I asked, going straight to the point now.
"It's soothing"
I looked around, taking the environment I found myself in and immediately agreed with him. It was soothing. Though, I wouldn't admit this to him.
Taking my hood down, I walked to the edge of the roof and took a seat. “Now who's suicidal?". He appeared beside me and took a seat next to me. The moon had come out fully now, making a perfect mix with the stars in the sky.
“Cora? Sandra? Leslie?", He said in a low voice, trying to guess my name." You don't look like a Leslie though. They're mostly blonde".
The corner of my lips twitched up," Try Riley".
