English

A huge hello to all of you, hivers, I hope you're doing great. This time, I'm here to address a frequently asked topic in the fitness community, and one that many people don't know how it works, or at least what it's about.

I'm referring to progressive overload, a term we've heard many times, and we wonder: What is it? What is it related to? This has generated rumors that aren't entirely true, in addition to the lack of accurate information. But what exactly is it?

What is progressive overload?

Progressive overload is a fundamental principle in training, especially for strength and muscle growth (hypertrophy). Simply put, it involves gradually increasing the demand or stimulus you place on your body over time.

Imagine your muscles are like a student getting used to a task. If you always give them the same task, they won't learn new things or get smarter. But if you give them increasingly difficult tasks, they'll be forced to improve and adapt. The same goes for your muscles: to grow and get stronger, they need to be constantly challenged.

Is it important?

It's very important to keep this in mind, as it provides several benefits in our workouts, such as:

- Stimulates muscle growth: When you subject your muscles to greater stress than they're used to, micro-tears occur in the muscle fibers. During the recovery process, the body repairs these tears and strengthens the fibers, making them larger and more resistant. Without progressive overload, your muscles adapt to the routine and progress stagnates.

- Increases strength: By lifting increasingly heavier weights or performing more repetitions, your nervous system and muscles become more efficient, which translates into an increase in strength.

- Prevents stagnation: Progressive overload ensures that you're always pushing your limits, preventing your body from getting used to the same routine and stopping. reply.

If I see that you really like it, I'll tell you how to apply progressive overload and different ways to do it, but that's for another time. Thank you all so much for reading this post. Bye.

Spanish

驴Con qu茅 est谩 relacionada?
