There are so many people in this part of the world who have some money and maybe because they want to create an avenue for their money to simply multiply, they just decide to establish a small business and because they have their hands full, they get someone to manage it in their absence, what happens after few years is that the business either becomes a shadow of itself or it becomes wrecked completely.
Like I once wrote here that I manage a small business of my own, when I started the business I had someone very dear who supported me with capital and I was extremely glad, I started the business immediately but that was the period I was also observing the compulsory national youth service in my country, which was in a state far away from where I had started my business and that only means I will not be around for some time to monitor my new baby business. I had to leave the business in the hands of someone I could trust (I thought), I went for service with gladness in my heart that the business was in a safe hand and it was going to be better by the time I got back.
Unfortunately, what I saw after my service year made my heart completely weak as I was broken beyond words could described, I cried out my heart when I realized the business I had so many hopes on was a shadow of itself and I was left with a few items and lots of debt, I was disappointed but I learnt my lesson.
If I had delayed the commencement of the business until I got back from service, I would have been able to monitor it properly and I would have avoided the sad story I still have to deal with up until now. I understand better now that, if you are not properly ready to start a business, you should not venture into it in the first place.
Monitoring your business at its early stage gives you a proper definition of the business, you get to interact with your customers on a personal level, you get to notice flaws and fix them immediately, you get to understand the ups and downs of the business, you have a basic knowledge of what the business can offer, as it grows you can begin to employ more people to work with you or for you without the fear of being ruined because you understand what exactly you should be getting and whom exactly should be questioned if the business is not producing appropriate returns.
I had a little disagreement with my Dad weeks ago because he felt my mates were looking more radiant and are always boasting of purchasing new items for themselves and family but I am just so dedicated to trying to fix a business that is not bringing me returns yet, although I know he might not understand, but I still tried to explain to him that I was not doing it for the benefits of the moment which even made him more angry.
It takes more than passion and zeal to become a business owner, starting a small business requires total dedication, ability to sacrifice almost all that you have for the purpose of the business if you are concerned about its growth.
