Yes, I know it is quite an odd "something" to miss, as normal or regular people, miss actual people, places, or events. And there are way more important things to talk about, but this is how I felt things morning.
This post is entirely about my love for video games and not a movie review or some other writing. And it is actually my first post here.
Growing up as a child, I was never really the kind of child to want to visit friends at their houses or go out to play football with others on the streets like regular guys. Heck, I never even went out to watch a football game in "viewing centers". I was not much of a football fan. Even now, the things I loved to do the most were to sit up all night watching cartoons or playing some video game on my PlayStation 2.
The PlayStation 2 came later in my childhood, so before then it was cartoons and animations. I did have a PlayStation 1 early in my childhood, but I lost it. I think I forgot it at a cousin's house or something, and they lived very far away.
Then the PlayStation 2 came out, and man, was I in love. I never really knew how to go about the online gaming server where we could install games. At that time, installing games on the web was quite difficult. You'd have to meet some "specialist" to help out. And I did have one, my uncle. But I never needed a large catalogue of games, so he just handed me the few that I liked.
The games I remember playing a lot are;
Ben 10: Alien Force : I was to total nerd for Ben 10 and his adventures as a kid.
God Hand : I was so good with this one. But I could spend days, and nights trying to pass some insane levels. Got me into trouble a lot.
Crash Tag Team Racing : My brother and I simply called it CTR. It was a racing game, but had all these crazy features to it
, like actually shooting down your opponent.Bad Boys 2 : This one had Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in it. It was basically from the movie, Bad Boys.
Need for Speed:Underground: My favourite game. It was based on its show too.
Commandos Strike Force: This one always had me glued for hours. It was a first person tactical shooter game.
I had these games as my best friends, and all I ever wanted to do then was to be with them all day. Of course, as a Nigerian in a Nigerian home, it was unacceptable to be playing video games all day and being "useless" in the house. As a result, my mother and I frequently disagree.
A point came in my life where my PS2 (PlayStation 2) got damaged as a result of a power surge. I could not play with my best friends for a long time, and I just went back to cartoons again.
Fast-forward to many years later, when I had stopped playing video games. I still had that "gamer spirit" in me. Then I learned about COD Mobile (Call of Duty Mobile), and then the spirit was summoned.
COD Mobile is basically a shooter game, but rather than just playing with NPCs (Non Playable Characters) on a game console, you get to play with other players from around the world (and some bots too).
I played COD for a long time, and I simply just fell in love with it. I had something to keep me occupied while I forgot about my problems for the time being. I played it every day and night.
But then, something happened that I had to let go of. I can't remember exactly, but I think it was because I needed some space on my device for some more important things and COD was giving updates too frequently. So I uninstalled it for a while. A while turned into never playing it again.
And now, just recently, I saw Acidyo post about his new phone, and he ran COD on it and talked about the phone's performance. On seeing his gameplay, I immediately remembered how I always felt playing it too.
Then this morning, I began to long for something other than food, movies, phone calls, conversation, surfing through Hive, and trying to learn coding (I'm sure Starstrings would be wondering about my progress), and I just couldn't place my thoughts on what exactly it was.
Then I suddenly remembered what it is that I would normally do when I want to unwind (taking naps is not something I'm good at). And I realised that I had actually really missed gaming.
I do not have any gaming consoles, so I have decided to reinstall COD. I am sure there will be so many changes and improvements since I have been away for so long. I would also like to try new mobile games. So if you have any ideas, please let me know.
