Today I want to ponder the question as to why Hive is ded. To get the wheels rolling, please check out my Hive buddy @markkujantunen and his piece What Is The Main Reason More People Do Not Use Hive As Their Preferred Social Media? In it he lays out a good case as to why it makes perfect sense for those that use traditional social media to switch over to Hive and make a little coin for their trouble. I agree with him that it does boggle the mind why so many people have not tried or have came and left. Here is what I wrote as a comment: You hit the nail on the head as we like to say, meaning of course that you got it exactly right. For me For me, YouTube, Steem, then Hive have all been bits of fun. Yes I like to make money, who doesnt? Yet that is not my main motivation. I enjoy sharing my digital diary and getting rewarded is a nice bonus.
However, if it makes perfect sense for folks to migrate to Hive, it begs the question as to why it has not happened. I started on Steemit over three years ago after the failure of Tsu and Niume. I saw first hand the coin go from a dime to over five bucks and back again. So I think it is fair to say that although Hive is not dead, we are not exactly setting the world on fire. I read where the CEO of Parler said they gained about half a million new accounts LAST WEEK! Now folks that is the opposite of dead!
Now if you are thinking that I have the answers, I am sorry I do not. It is a mystery to me why Steem/Hive never really took off. I think it is a given that folks like money. Possibly when money is involved, people automatically switch their brains into work vs compensation mode. Then they quickly make the deduction that the "compensation" is not adequate for the "effort" put forth to earn it. Now I am happy to say I never fell into this dilemma because I do not feel like this is work, therefore I am not expecting a commensurate amount of pay. I look at it simply as a hobby where I get to earn a few bucks over time.
Perhaps the problem is that the compensation is in crypto? I know Steem was my first crypto I ever owned and it was somewhat daunting at first blush with keys you cant lose or disclose, and the whole idea of where the "money" come from etc etc. I mean the concept in my mind seems easy...create a Facebook that rewards the creators. However as easy as it sounds, it apparently is quite elusive in the real world.
