Yep the Maneater is what I affectionately call Ben's Cape Sun Dew Plant. We have had it a year or two and this is the first time it flowered! We had moved it to the balcony so it could really get some decent sun. It is a plant native to Africa, so it likes some sun and seems to be thriving on the balcony.
The flower is very small but pretty, about the size of a pencil eraser. Its beauty is just a disguise for the killer that it is - The Maneater!
It is a rather small plant. Of course the white fuzzy things do not belong. Those are cottonwood seeds that have found their way to the sun dew. They are stuck on the same tiny testicles that have sweet sticky drops of dew that lure in bugs that the plant eats!
Here you can see some of the latest little buggers that got caught! If you have fruit flies or any small pests, this might be right for you. In advance of the inevitable question, no it does not get large enough for spouses to get entrapped lol. 馃榿

With all the colors and pretty dots and dew, it is easy to see the attraction for the average bug. They would have been better off if they had heeded the words of the late, great Waylon Jennings when he wrote, "be careful of something that is just what you want it to be"...
