Hello feathered friends.
A few days ago, I received information that there is a white heron in the vicinity of the place where I live next to the canal. Since I got to know the lone gray heron by the lake quite well, I decided to go on a reconnaissance.
The canal is only a few kilometers away so I decided to take a walk. The mentioned canal is located in the area between two villages surrounded by plowed fields. Open field where I can hardly be unnoticed.
At the lake, which is surrounded by forest, I had problems approaching the gray heron, and now I go to the clearing to meet the white heron, probably just as careful as the latter.
As I walked towards the canal I noticed probably a falcon on a tree canopy in the distance watching in search of prey. I'm not sure and I didn't want to deviate from the path.
This is what the canal environment looks like.
I thought it would be very difficult for me to get close enough and I can tell you that I was right. Of course, the heron spotted me first and immediately fluttered wings and flew away from me.
Interestingly, the herons escape only a few hundred meters from the threat. As soon as the bird reached a safe distance it landed on the ground.
I approached slowly but the bird just didn’t take its eyes off me. As I became a threat again, the bird took off.
And left behind only one feather in the canal.
Because of beautiful back feathers, the white heron was often the target of hunters. The feathers were then used as an ornament on women's hats.
After a few minutes, the bird started circling around me.
It landed on a plowed field next to the road I took to reach the canal.
Is it possible that I will spin in a circle again as with a gray heron? I begin to move slowly towards the bird. And the white heron slowly walked away from me deep into the field.
I watched it from a safe distance of a few hundred meters. The zoom is at maximum and I didn’t look around. At one point, another white heron jumped into the frame. It became very interesting.
At the same time, dance or fight begins. I'm not sure.
After a few elegant maneuvers the other heron leaves. Moving towards me, crossing me and landing in the canal.
I managed to take a photo before the bird flew again.
Like a ghost until the next meeting.
