Title: Wild teasel spikes
I frequently encounter this fascinating shrub in the wild. Usually, I locate a single plant or a few close by. This time, I discovered that these plants had nearly taken over the entire field.
It is one of the rare plants that is more attractive when it is dry than when it is growing and blooming. It functions as an analeptic and an anti-inflammatory in conventional medicine. Dried fruit was used mostly in the textile sector to combing wool. Metal tiles have taken their place today.
Another intriguing fact is that one species of bird, the Eurasian goldfinch, relies heavily on the seeds of this plant for its diet. Which unfortunately I haven't seen eating at the time.
