I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. The technological evolution of our world has moved at a pace that no one saw coming; our world has evolved from one level to another, and there will be even more evolution in the nearest future. We went from depending on letters that take months to be delivered to having devices that can deliver our messages in a few seconds and went from depending on our legs and beasts of burden to having different means of transportation we are left to choose from or make our choice. Technology aims at making life a lot easier and better for us as individuals, and it has indeed been doing that effortlessly.
Despite how much technology has evolved, we are still not content with how much technology has improved, and we still want more; it is in human nature to never be contented. Even when I learned economics in school, we were taught that humans are insatiable; once one need or want is satisfied, they have another and start working towards satisfying the new need or want, and sadly it is a continuous cycle with no end; the end of every need or want gives rise to another. The continuous need and want for improvement on things will force companies to put way more effort than even required just to meet the needs and wants of the people.
You must agree with me that technological growth is actually being fueled by competition between companies and even individuals. We are at this level because company A wants to outdo company B, and at the same time, company B is not just going to sit back and watch company A outdo them, hence the development and evolvement we are seeing at the pace we are seeing them. Every company wants to be in the headline as the first to develop an idea or as the first to invent any device they can think of, and this has really taken technological development and advancement to the highest level.
Humans will always want more, and every company will want to be the one that meets the needs of the people, as that is the only way they get to sell out. At first we just wanted phones to communicate with (phone calls); then now we want phones that can connect us to the internet; then now we want phones we can use to take pictures and give us good pictures, then phones with long-lasting batteries. This continuous human want and insatiability has kept all these companies on their toes as they strive to meet the people's needs and wants.
If not for human insatiability, the evolution and development of technology would have been way slower because we are contented and okay with where we are and what we have, so there won't be effort to improve technology. Even if there are efforts put in, it won't be much or enough to cause technology to move at the pace that it is moving at currently, where we have greed and competition between companies. The insatiability of humans and the competition between companies are the major reasons technology is at the level it is right now, and if removed, the pace gets slower.
