Many people think they can control power, and then they go in pursuit of it only for the complete opposite of what they had in mind to begin to play out. One mistake humans make is judging those in power and criticising their style and also claiming that the power is in control of them and not them in control of the power. The truth is that until you are in that position and did very well handling power, you should be careful how you judge and criticise those in power because there is a high chance if that mantle falls on you, you'd be worse than those you are criticising.
Power can be really controlling; you can have a different plan and a different intention before you pick it up, only for you to pick it up and a completely different thing to begin to play out. Power can change you completely to the point even you won't know who you are anymore because of how much control the power has over you and the things you tend to do just to keep that power and keep feeling all high and mighty as well as untouchable. Not everyone touches power and voluntarily wants to let it go; some people become really intoxicated by the power and will want to keep it forever because of how it makes them feel.
We have had news of many leaders and their entire families being killed because they ruled for too long, and when asked to step down, they put up a fight, and in the end, it cost them their lives, properties and even the lives of their whole families. That is how much power can cost you if you let it control you. Anyone who allows power to control them always gets it bad and hot in the end. The losses that come with being power drunk are something no one should wish upon themselves, but somehow people still let themselves get to that point. Power, if held for too long, will consume you and at some point will not only take you but also the things you love.
Veto power is a type of power where a single person holding that veto power can overturn things; a single person's 'no' or 'yes' can overturn the many 'yeses' or the many 'noses' that have been said before they decide to use their power and bring about things going the way they want. Veto power can be good, and it can be bad, and it all depends on who is controlling the power. Just like we have the saying, "When a good man is on the seat, the people rejoice, and when a bad man is on the seat, the people suffer," veto power in the hands of a good man who is not power drunk will favour the people, as that amount of power controlled by one person can bring the turnaround in favour of the people.
Veto power in the hands of a man who has no dream and no vision and is only after power is like a ticking bomb; it is only a matter of time before it is exposed and causes harm and damages. Veto power is quite a lot of power for one man to carry, especially an evil man, but it is quite the amount of power a good man needs to fight evil and stay on top of it. To fight evil we need a power greater than it, and veto power is a good way to go about it.
