The truth is, with power comes respect, influence, protection, and other mind-blowing benefits.
Look at politics, for instance: someone can come from nowhere with terrible records and maneuver their way up; as soon as they get there, whatever they do, even with evidence, can not be punished until they vacate power.
That's on the negative side; on the positive side, power can transform lives, bring hope, progress, and peace. With just one decree, a turnaround is bound to occur; unfortunately, only a few use power in this aspect.
I will be honest, seeing how critical power is, I reckon there is a kind of power that should not be bestowed on one person.
No one can determine the content of the heart of a man; for selfish interests, they can use the power they possess to override or decree certain things which may not necessarily favor their subjects.
This is why the subject of veto power is a bit complex for me. How can we tell that the person who is making the general decision for us is doing that based on wisdom and logic?
In fact, even if the person is the most professional individual on earth, the person is human; he is prone to making mistakes and being led by emotions, what is the guarantee we have that we are submitting to what is right?
Most people might not be pleased with the fact that their head is also human. They bow to just anything he says without necessarily questioning it, which is understandable, but sometimes, we have to learn how to examine decisions before we accept them.
Frankly speaking, veto power is not something I am completely okay with, but what other way do we have? Everyone can not decide else there would be confusion.
A simple matter that should take a few minutes to resolve might take days and might not even bring a positive result because everyone would like their opinion to be considered.
Well, in my opinion, since we can not take veto power out of the picture, veto power should not be made too strict. As much as we agree that the person with power can override or approve a matter, room should be made available for cross-checking by selected people before final approval.
One person should not hold power that contradicts what a majority stands on; it doesn't make sense. Politically, there is a rule that the majority carries the vote and not smartness, wisdom, wealth, or an office.
A lot of things that we are blindly following need to be questioned and looked into again for amendment.
Look at what that kind of power has caused us. One political leader can wake up one day and declare a community where people struggled to build their small houses to be demolished, and it will stand.
In serious decisions, someone can just come up with a verdict that only fits his interests and counter that of everyone, and it will stand. I think it's high time we correct some of these things for good.
Although sometimes veto power can be exercised by a group of people, which is quite fine and preferable for me.
