One of my friends back then in school will always say, "School is fun; the only mess-up about school is the fact we have to write exams at the end of every semester or term." The exam period is one period that causes students to tremble. The truth is that exams do not just scare the unserious students, but also the brilliant and intelligent students tremble at the mention of exams not because they are really scared of it but because everyone understands how stressful and how hectic that period can be.
The exam period marks the end of a term or semester and comes with a lot of stress on not just the students but also the teachers and lecturers. When you hear teachers complain about the tediousness of marking and recording scripts, or if you have experienced it firsthand, you will understand better why everyone is scared of the exam period. The exam period comes with many questions for students. Am I ready? Which subject or which course do I need to focus on more, and which are my favorite or strong subjects? So many questions, and then those who sincerely answered these questions know where they stand even before the exams commence or end.
When we talk about exams, Ms. U proof thinks it is the result from exams that determines intelligence and brilliance, but that is quite wrong. I have seen students who were believed to be brilliant fail and exam woefully, and those believed to be dull passed with flying colors. Exams should not be used as a tool for the measurement of intelligence because we can often get it wrong if we use exams as a tool to measure intelligence. There was a time we all believed those who wear glasses are intelligent until we experienced firsthand that not all of them are near the word "intelligent." It is the same thing with exams; not all who pass exams are actually intelligent.
Intelligence goes beyond grades; intelligence shows both in behavior, how one talks, how one reacts to situations, and how they respond to jokes and insults. Intelligence is not on paper or on a scoreboard; intelligence shows in everything you do, so if we judge intelligence just by grades, then we will add the wrong people to a group they don't belong to. There are people whose school grade and how they behave and how they talk you will doubt are the same person; intelligence goes beyond grades and is reflected in everything that concerns us.
For me, examination is just a check to see if the students are following up on what they were taught and not a measure of intelligence; it is also a kind of criteria set up to determine if a person or a student is qualified to move to the next class or level and not a measure of intelligence. Examination just proves one is following or one prepared well for the exams or did not prepare at all, but it is not a measure for intelligence. I have seen intelligent people fail the exam because they did not prepare for it, while so many unserious people passed because a day or two before the exams, they had time to prepare properly.
