Exams in all honesty as re treated as the highest proof of intelligence and I don't seem to really understand why. I've seen a number of post online talking about if exams could be taken out of the equation and if schools can stop doing exams and all of that, I even saw one that says he wants to know who originated this exam of a thing and why... And even though some of these things may look or sound funny, it is not bad to think that so if a person passes an examination them they are somehow intelligent.
Wait! I'm not saying exam is bad. Nah, I know they're very very important, you know ... You just have to know and be sure that you know and understand what was taught and what you claimed to have learned. And doing or setting up an examination is a very good way to determine that. Even still, does it mean that when a person passes whatever examination it is, then they are intelligent.
You know I just have to say this because I believe a lot of us have once been a student or are presently a student. And you know what exams and students can be like. Students most times only read to pass this examination of a thing we're talking about it. Some are every good in memorizing formulas, definitions, laws, and all of that, then get to the exam all and solve it all and define it all correctly, but I'm few days time, they've forgotten it all again.
Let's not even talk about those who are very good in engaging in examination malpractice, I hope you know they most times have higher scores than you who actually prepared for the exam. Now, are we saying they're more intelligent because they passed.
But then, like I said earlier, let's not talk about those who engage in malpractice, let's just go back to those who only read to pass exams and forget about it immediately they're done, now compare those people to those who may not actually be good with exam's but know how to very well apply what they learned in real life situations. They may not know something word for word the way you know and wrote it down in your exams, but when da es with real life problems, they know what and what to do. Now tell me the one that actually shows knowledge and problem solving skill. The one who's good with it on paper or the one who can look at things and make a change, find a way, and find a solution
That is real knowledge, at least to me. Being able to understand, solve and apply what you've learned... Isn't that intelligence. I studied Agricultural Technology. Now, imagine learning that course for years and at the end of the day, you're asking us questions on paper, tell me what happens when we get to an actual farm and there's work to do, tell me what happens when we find out chicks are dying or that our animals need vaccinations.
And I believe the same applies to all fields, talk of medicine, law, engineering and all. What's the essence of actually getting good grades in medicine or computer science when you can't inject a patient or struggle to even handle a computer. You study business administration but you can't handle a business, you studied marketing but don't know how to pitch your business or a business talk less of marketing yourself or the business.
This is not to say examination should stop, yes, exams shouldn't disappear but they shouldn't be used as the complete measurement of how intelligent a person is. So, it shouldn't always be did you pass your exams, it should be, now that you've gotten good grades, what can you do with the knowledge with it, what can you do with the knowledge you have? Because life won't give us exam papers to deal with, it will always give us actual problems to solve and find solutions to.
