Today's post is in relation to the one I published a week or so ago for the Weekend Engagement about Switzerland. When I wrote it my computer decided to be uncooperative and denied me access to all of my photos a.k.a. the harddrive had disconnected and I didn't have time to fix it on the spot before the post was due. So, I promised to post some more pictures of Switzerland and here we are: The Alps.
All of these photos were taken two days after our wedding when we went on a little hike on the Schynigge Platte, which overlooks Interlaken and its two lakes. To make it not too exhausting for everyone (including me!) we took the red cable car up the mountain and then hiked up there for a few hours.
The views are absolutely breathtaking
Looking towards the north there are the two lakes, Lake Brienz and Lake Thun which you see in these two pics.
Turning to the south you have the Alps - need I say more?
I don't know about you but whenever I think about the Alps I think about mountains and snow. But in summer it is mountains and endless green with rocks and a few white caps. It is truly magnificent nature and more than once we simply stopped to lay in the grass looking at the clouds letting our minds wander.
Here you have a little glimpse of Lake Brienz and I am sure that some of the mountain tops are the Eiger, M枚nch, and Jungfrau - just don't ask me which one is which 馃槅.
Then look at those formations in the front, you can see how the mountains... evolved. It looks really quite bizarre and so beautiful to a low-lander like myself.
After not quite a week in Interlaken we decided to spend a few days in Northern Italy, specifically at Lake Garda. To get there we had to cross the Alps and since we were on vacation we decided to do it the scenic way and took the route via Furka Pass instead of the St. Gotthard tunnel/pass.
After many, many hairpin curves, s-curves we were finally able to stop on the side of the road to take in the views of the surrounding mountains and the Rhone glacier. The weather up there wasn't particularly cooperative but it was wonderful nonetheless.
