It happened today.

I had pondered it previously a few times but never did it.

Some people assumed that because I am a Photoshop geek from the early days that I had one.

But I did not. Until today. Today, I opened a package and out came

a brand new MacBook Air. You can't really see it but, I got it in beautiful starlight color, not silver but slightly tinted, hah, color is important.

I have had it now for roughly three hours, made dinner in between, while it updated - for 30 minutes after it had already done stuff for a while?! I guess some things are no different no matter if Mac, Windows or Linux - LOL

But eventually I was welcomed in all the languages of this world, Okay not all because I didn't wait for all of them.

What can I say, it seems to be working. I had to google a few things to find my way around but I'm pretty confident now that I can work this machine. I managed to install Brave and my password manager and Hive Keychain and - here I am, typing away happily.

Now, why did I get a MacBook? After all I am a very proficient Windows user, I know my way around Windows well. Which was the reason why in my old age I just couldn't convert to Linux. I tried it a couple of years ago. I took my old Windows laptop wiped it and installed Linux Mint on it but try as I might I just couldn't. Programs were missing, I replaced them, some were good, some not so much. Anyhow, it was just too much for me to learn and re-wire to enjoy during stressful (work) times.

Eventually, I gave up and the laptop now sits in a cabinet. A couple of years ago I got a cute 15" gaming laptop, a nice Alienware 15 R3 and I liked it for watching videos and stuff while I was painting in my creative corner. However, it was loud. Whenever the fans kicked in which they do fairly often it is screaming. So much that my hubby in the other room asked if it were raining outside - LOL. The other issue is its weight. On my recent trip to Germany I did not want to take it because it is sooooo heavy.

Then the other week I was enjoying beautiful early summer weather on our balcony and I brought my laptop along to do some web browsing, nothing major. The laptop die after only two and a half hours.

That was the i-dot to this story. That same day I did some research into laptops. Actually, a lot of research. My wishlist looked something like this:

  • Around 15"
  • Weight as light as my little 14" work laptop
  • Good to excellent battery life and
  • As silent as possible

Yup, I am a demanding bitch (my husband's words - hahaaha). The first Google searches I did brought up Macs in place 1 - 4 and I was, no, there has to be something else. So, I altered my search a little and I found options. In the end I narrowed it down to a MacBook Air 15 or a LG Gram. In fact, I favored the gram being Windows and all and a lot cheaper, so I closed all my Mac research tabs and was going to go for it.

But then I thought, wait, let's search some more reviews, like Reddit and shit. Uh oh - did the Gram get smashed for being very noisy, the fan kicking in all the time and I was like - no effin way! That's what I am trying to get away from. So then I looked up more MacBook reviews because obviously for using Photoshop and stuff I was also interested in the MacBook Pro but - that's too heavy. Interestingly, the M chip in the Macs, or at least this Mac, does not need a fan, even under load. I will admit I'm a bit suspicious about that. But in the end, I caved in and confessed to the hubby that I moved over to the dark side.

I bought a MacBook Air.

Hopefully, he'll forgive me, eventually 馃槝. He actually just down, ahem, upgraded from an iPhone 6 to an Asus Zenfone 10 android, so, yeah. I know it is hard to believe, but I really am not a Mac fangirl. This is my first f...n Mac ever. I have had my iPhone for, hmm, ten years now and, of course, I wouldn't want to miss my iPad for the drawing. But when hubby changed to his android and I did the research I was tempted. There are some nice androids out there but I think I'll stick with mine.

So, yeah, that was my little laptop reveal of the day / night. I am not going to post this tonight but will have another look in the morning, maybe do some beautifying. Now it is dinner time for us.

Oh, there's probably going to be another post on this topic. About me trying to find my way around a Mac. Kind of funny all the things a Mac-idiot like me needs to google...

And, btw, I am finishing this up while happily sitting on the balcony again.

Have a good one. Cheers,
