Ely stood all day on the cornice of her town's gothic church, contemplating the clouds flowing lazily over the horizon. She had round eyes of a deep and expressive black, a wide smile and cute bat-winged ears and because of these characteristics she was the gargoyle most admired by tourists. The only thing that saddened her was the funereal color of her body, a dull gray that did not suit her good mood. One morning like any other, when the sun flooded the church with light, Ely discovered that she was wearing a colorful bikini that made her feel so special that her eyes sparkled in the morning sunlight. The arcane mystery was attributed to the advertising campaign of a swimwear manufacturer, who had dressed the town statues in their garish creations. For Ely it was the most beautiful day in centuries, she felt as beautiful and feminine as she had ever felt.

Ely stava tutto il giorno sul cornicione della chiesa gotica della sua città a contemplare le nuvole che scorrevano leste sull'orizzonte. Aveva occhi tondi di un nero intenso ed espressivo, un largo sorriso e simpatiche orecchie ad ala di pipistrello e per queste sue caratteristiche era il gargoyle più ammirato dai turisti. L'unica cosa che la rattristava era il colore funereo del suo corpo, un opaco grigio che non si addiceva al suo buon umore. Una mattina come le altre, quando il sole inondò di luce la chiesa, Ely scoprì che indossava un coloratissimo bikini che la fece sentire così speciale da farle brillare gli occhi ai raggi del sole mattutino. L'arcano mistero era da attribuirsi alla campagna pubblicitaria di un produttore di costumi da bagno, che aveva vestito le statue cittadine con le sue sgargianti creazioni. Per Ely fu la giornata più bella degli ultimi secoli, si sentiva bella e femminile come non lo era mai stata.
