We have a deep connection to video games in our culture, but can we be storytellers of culture through video games?

Game makers, Upper One Games partnered with E-Line Media for co-development and co-publishing of Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna). In this atmospheric puzzle platformer game, you can explore awe-inspiring environments, perform heroic deeds, and meet legendary characters from Iñupiaq stories, all narrated by a Alaskan Native storyteller in the spoken Iñupiaq language.

To create Never Alone, Upper One Games and E-Line Media worked closely with the guidance of Alaska Native storytellers and elders to bring to life a game with a focus on the traditional lore of the Iñupiat people.

Never Alone is inspired by a tapestry of rich art and imagery of Alaskan Native cultures, which brings the atmospheric and compelling world of Iñupiaq stories alive. Traditional stories that a now kept alive and presented to the next generation and a worldwide audience.

Play as a young Iñupiat girl (Nuna) and an arctic fox as they set out to find the source of the eternal blizzard which threatens the survival of everything they have ever known.

Guide both characters in single-player mode or play cooperatively with a friend or family member as you trek through frozen tundra, leap across treacherous ice floes, swim through underwater ice caverns, and face numerous enemies both strange and familiar in the journey to save the girl’s village.
