Untitled Dancer En Pointe
When my wife began work on this piece, my initial impression was that it looked a bit flat and lifeless - but that was because I didn't really know what I was looking at, and she was nowhere near being finished. As with most of her work, at least from my perspective; most of the magic happens with the shadows and the highlights.
I remember she had done the under painting and some details, then she let it sit in the corner for a week or two. I never really asked, and she didn't offer, so as far as I knew she was finished. Then one day she picked it up and over the course of an hour or two added a ton of highlights, particles and such and the piece just came to life!
It never ceases to amaze me how she can breathe life into a piece of work by just adding a few specks of paint here, a bit of pigment there - and voila! It jumps right out of the canvas at you.
Lately, when she isn't painting crows, Amanda has been into painting dancers. She really likes to convey movement. I would say that her favorite type of work is figurative. Which is interesting to me because she's also quite good at creating abstract work.
