Silicon Valley Is Hiring Models For Christmas Parties Again

This article in Bloomberg Businessweek caught my eye. According to them, it looks like tech firms in the valley are hiring model who pretend to be employees for their Christmas parties this year. Not quite sure what to make of it. On the one hand, it's really sad that you need to go out of the way to not look like a bunch of losers. On the other hand, it must be nice working for such a "caring" employer who goes all out to make sure that you have a good time at the annual Xmas party.

So much for #metoo

Pretending to be employees is one thing but if you read the article, it's easy to see how they open themselves up to sexual harassment claims down the line when they ask these models to dress up in "Pink Panther-themed latex bodysuits" and "forest nymphs". Mix in the copious amounts of alcohol and we have a recipe for a disaster.

There's too much cheap money floating around

We've had almost a decade of money printing by the Fed, the ECB, the BOE and the BOJ. This unprecedented experiment in monetary policy has led to a lot of cheap money floating around. Did it help to prevent a great depression type of scenario? Perhaps. The trouble is that it has also pumped asset prices to unsustainable levels and i also contend that a lot of this money has been tightly-held, not reaching main-street, where it is needed the most. Sometimes the solution is worse than the problem.

Also, if you're an investor, you must be wondering why your hard-earned money is being spent on frivolous expenses like models at a party.

I'm thankful for my boring office Xmas parties again

I still remember my old office Xmas party celebrations. Usually buffet lunch at a hotel restaurant followed by caroling. The carols get really awkward since you're forced to sing in front of co-workers. But hey, at least there's 0% chance of a harassment claim.
