Eastbourne is one of the major warm-up tournaments on the WTA tour for Wimbledon. A lot of action today but the one that caught the eye was world number 5 - Kerber, against world number 132 - Stosur. Kerber has a good record against Stosur, with 3 wins in their last 3 encounters.
In Stosur's favor, however, is the fact that she has played the qualifiers here and is well accustomed to the grass courts already. In contrast, Kerber hasn't played a competitive match since the French Open.
The ladies' game is so unpredictable that the rankings don't seem to matter. I think Kerber is still a class above the likes of Stosur who really is a journey-woman on the tour.
