Greetings great hivers, at first , I didn't feel like I would have a lot to write about this topic. But after going through writeup, I started smiling and I remembered what happened in this country during when they wanted to implement the cashless policy of a thing, which I don't think had seen tbe light of the day. But people had suffered because of that policy which was not planned for before trying to implement it.
Now, the question is, what if money expire ? Well, It will be good and it will also be bad. You know in Nigeria people will use any opportunity they have to earn , they might even go to the extent of using people's predicament to defraud them and they call it business. But the funny part is that, these are the same people that will criticize government the most.
I remember during the cashless policy of a thing and couple with the fact that they wanted to retrieve all the old 200, 500 and 1000 naira note and inject the new ones into the system. Meaning the old note will expire in your hand if you don't exchange it on or before the date line. I remember very well, that some people were even selling things at a cheaper rate so far as you have the new currency to buy, money was circulating faster but the needed new currency was not fully available . And this alone brought the hardship and suffering.
Still in this country and in this my state, some people who had shops and supermarket were the ready to accept the old note , but on a condition that you will buy a product of 500 naira for 1000, even when they want to swap the money for you, they would tell you if you are bringing old 10000 naira note to swap that you will get 5000 naira in returns. It was so outrageous and painful. I remember a friend of mine who said to me, Nsi... if this money will become useless in my hand no problem, let it be, instead of me swapping the 50k for 25k. The guy kept money.
I remember trekking from 4 lanes traffic to around plaza because no taxi was ready to get the old currency, I was suffering with my money. The following day, after trekking half the distance that I trekked the first day, I stopped a taxi jumped inside, when we get to half way of our destination, i told the driver, will you collect old currency or I do transfer. He was angry that I didn't tell him that I don't have the new currency, I told he that if I had informed him earlier that he wouldn't have carried me, he angrily accepted a transfer but on a condition that I will pay double, I paid.
All this suffering was as a result of people being scared that money will expire with them. So if money is to expire, it will be good and also bad, because money will circulate faster, and in the other hand, some people will try to skyrocket the price of their commodities when they notice that the money with you is near the expiry date .
