As part of his commitment to further develop his alma mater and enhance the reading culture among its students, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien, the Accountant General of the State, has successfully renovated and equipped his alma mater's library, Community Secondary School, Ikot Akpan Eshiet in ONNA LGA. This initiative aims to revive and promote reading culture among students.
Speaking during a brief handing-over ceremony at the school, Pastor Andrew-Essien emphasized the importance of reading in unlocking one鈥檚 potential. He stated, "We recognized the need to invest in books for the library. However, upon assessing the library鈥檚 condition, my Personal Assistant informed me that the facility was inadequate to house books. This revelation prompted us to undertake its renovation."
He expressed gratitude to the Principal for her support despite the negative opinions made by some people and encouraged the students to utilize the library as a valuable resource for their educational growth and future success.
In her response, the Principal, Mrs. Idongesit Etuk, commended the Accountant General for his generosity in revitalizing the school library. She urged students to seize this opportunity to cultivate a reading habit, stating that such endeavors will contribute to them becoming great in future.
The ceremony culminated with the official presentation of books by Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien and his wife, Pastor Mrs. Imaobong Andrew-Essien, to the Principal, marking a significant step forward in promoting a culture of reading in Community Secondary School, Ikot Akpan Eshiet.
