Whenever I drained my battle energy for Modern League and I feel like playing more I go and grind the Frontier Mode to earn a couple of extra cards because I still don't have the set maxed, I keep forgetting to spin the wheel every day because my main priority is with Modern and I just forget to check the Frontier tab so my streak keeps getting broken after two or three days. 😅
I did play Frontier a couple of times this week and to be honest, I just spin the wheel so I can continue with the battles but twice this week, the wheel landed on the red box - a boss fight where we can earn some extra Glint.
I played the intermediate boss before, and it was quite easy to beat. Good to know: you have all the cards in Frontier Mode available to you, not just the ones you own so it's much like a Ghost Card Tournament so this time I felt like it couldn't hurt to try out the biggest boss, and in the first fight he looked pretty strong with high attack and good abilities.
Every time you fight a boss, it's stats and abilities changes.
In my first fight Eagle Libre had a pretty high attack, 9 Melee with when you include the armor as well, over a hundred hit points to eat through, of course he could only attack once every round on everyone in my team can attack, the legendary archer in the back even two times every round.
I went for the Dragon Archon because it gives access to the Dragons and gives Flank so I'm able to line up two melee units in the front, both able to attack. Because of the higher speed I used Dire Bear as the tank, hoping it could dodge one of Libre's attacks, Khan has the Slow ability so the speed difference is 2.
No dodges whatsoever and Libre quickly went through my front line...
Vaelok is a really nice card I don't have in my deck, the Life Leech made it's HP go up a lot and at this point it was clear this would be a win, 1000 Glint reward - not that I'm really using it other than shop for cool skins every now and then but still, a win is a win!
I think I've had a total of four of these Pit Fights over the last months, which is also due to me not spinning the wheel very much but I was surprised the wheel landed on another Pit Fight only two or three days later, this time Eagle Libre of course had different stats...
Lower melee attack, higher speed and Void Armor and there's no Shatter in Frontier Mode, this time I figured it would be helpful to go with the Dragon / Life because Life has a tank with the Shield ability and I found out a very cool sneak unit with Double Strike too.
I would rather have a support unit with Repair instead of Tank Heal in this fight but there's no Repair in Frontier Mode as well.
My tank was able to hold the front line for SIX rounds, pretty impressive and although it missed quite a lot of it's own attacks, it's sole job was to delay so the rest of my team would be able to weaken him.
At this point it was clear, the biggest boss fights aren't that tough with some good thinking and it would be an easy victory.
I think Frontier, and the Pit Fights too is an exciting way for new players to learn how to play the game without bringing too much complexity at once and even experienced players play this mode for some extra rewards.
