Well, first of all, I think crypto will still be here in five years. That much I am fairly comfortable saying, what I cannot tell you, and what I don't think anyone can tell you with absolute certainty, is what the price of Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency will look like by then. We can make predictions and look at market cycles, but anyone who tells you with complete confidence that they know exactly where crypto will be in five years is probably just lying to you.
If I had to guess, I think the next five years will probably look like more of the same in some ways. There will still be volatility. There will still be bull markets, bear markets, new projects and probably other few new coins. Crypto has always had this ability to move as i consider it to be very dynamic and I don't see that disappearing anytime soon. One day everyone is talking about how crypto is going to change the world, and a few months later everyone is asking whether the entire industry is finished. Then, somehow, the cycle starts again.
But for me the bigger question for me isn't really whether crypto will go bullish or bearish. The more important question is whether crypto will actually become something that people around the world genuinely use and trust and that i believe is what will make it sustainable or not, because till date, there are still a lot of people who remain sceptical about cryptocurrency, and honestly, I understand why. From the outside, the industry can sometimes look like one giant casino. You have thousands of tokens appearing out of nowhere, people buying them with liquid cash because they saw someone on social media talking about them, prices suddenly going up, everyone rushing in, and then the price collapsing just as quickly.
For many people, crypto is still less about building something for the long term and more about trying to catch the next pump. You find a coin early, watch it go up, take your profit and leave before someone else does. That mentality isn't exactly helping cryptocurrency gain the kind of credibility it needs for widespread adoption and I think that is where the future of crypto will ultimately be decided.
If cryptocurrency remains primarily associated with speculation, pump and dump schemes and people trying to become rich overnight, then I don't think it will ever reach its full potential. There will always be people willing to gamble on it, but that is very different from global acceptance. For crypto to truly evolve, it has to become useful. People need to be able to use it for payments, transfers, savings, investments, digital ownership and other practical purposes without needing to understand the technical complexities behind blockchain technology. The average person shouldn't have to become a crypto expert just to use a cryptocurrency and i think this will be the ultimate determinant as to where its headed.
