The Hive suite game that i tried first was the 3d chess, i tried playing against the bot but to be honest it was too easy and i doubt id get anyone to play with me, so i jumped straight to the space shooter game 1942. I came across it while exploring the games available on Hive suite, and I decided to give it a try. I've played space shooter games and they are pretty starightforward for me to be honest and i liked this one too, I found myself getting more interested in it than I had anticipated.
The game as i said is pretty straightforward. You control your space ship, shoot down enemies and try to survive for as long as possible to beat your high score. It is the kind of game you can jump into without spending too much time learning complicated mechanics, up, down, left and right thats it. Although at first i didnt even know you could move up, i thought you could only move left and right at the base level. However, don't let that simplicity fool you because things can get quite intense once the enemies start appearing in greater numbers.
As you can see from my screenshot, I managed to score 50,300 points, taking down 209 enemies, including 39 bombers, in 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Not too bad, right? 馃槀 The funny part is that, despite all that effort, the screen still greeted me with a big Mission failed message. Apparently, I had managed to set a new personal best, but my very first attempt i made an 8k plus and i just knew i could do better, which made the whole experience even more satisfying. There is something about seeing your score improve that makes you want to jump straight back in and try again. You start thinking about what you could have done differently, how you could have avoided certain enemies, and whether you can survive a little longer on your next attempt.
That is probably what I enjoy most about games like this. They are simple enough to pick up whenever you have some free time, but they still give you a reason to keep playing. You are constantly trying to improve your performance, even when there isn't necessarily a complicated story or a long progression system to keep you invested. I also appreciate having something like this available within the Hive ecosystem. Sometimes, you just want to take a break from writing posts, reading other people's content, or checking your usual Hive activities and do something different for a few minutes.
Of course, now that I have a score of 50,300, I have given myself a new problem. I need to beat it!
