I just dont understand the obsession with building extremely huge mansions and i understand wanting a beautiful home. I understand wanting enough space for your family, having a comfortable living room, a few bedrooms, a nice kitchen, maybe a guest room and even a little space outside but sometimes I see these humongous houses with ten, fifteen or even twenty rooms and I genuinely start wondering "why"?. You drive past it and you don't even need to ask whether the person is doing well financially. The size of the house has already answered the question for you but then again the fact remains that most people don't actually need that much space.
Imagine a family of four or five living in a house with twelve bedrooms. You might have a master bedroom, children's rooms, a guest room and perhaps a few additional rooms for relatives when they visit but what happens to the rest? The maintenance alone is just hell. A huge house isn't just expensive to build. It is expensive to keep alive, but ig uess if you have the money its not gonna really bother you, but then what about when you get old or when you die and your children inherit it or when your children move out, it just become hollow and more often than not the children just end up selling the place, because the upkeep is just insane.
I have also entered and been in one of these absurdly huge houses and the interior design is just ugly, so much space and they dont even know what to do with it, its all just space and there is nothing inherently wrong with that. If someone has the money and genuinely enjoys living in a huge house, then good for them. A large family might genuinely need a lot of space, and some people simply enjoy architecture and interior design. I can understand that.
But at some point, the house stops being a home and starts becoming a showroom and perhaps that is why I consider extremely large mansions an overrated luxury. I would rather have a smaller house that is comfortable, well-designed and actually used than a massive mansion where half the rooms exist simply because there was enough money to build them.
