I believe the biggest hype around it has always been about automating the money making opportunities that are possible with it, without that I think AI usage is basically for the minority: big tech companies and a few rich individuals who can afford to use it without really depending on the process to directly make them money.

This reminds me of a good example Saylor had about Bitcoin adoption. He compared it to the adoption of aluminium sales. He suggested one great adoption was the development of the airline industry and the use of aluminium in airplane manufacture.

Those flying in planes do not need to know anything about aluminium's manufacture; they don't even need to know that the plane is made of aluminium, yet through air travel they are promoting the aluminium industry.

In the same way not everyone may have a hands on experience with AI yet the majority of the systems, programs, corporate and government decision affecting them will be done through AI. Even the bombing victims in Gaza likely have little knowledge that bombing life and death decisions were done through AI.

It's not a hype and likely not going away in my opinion. It will affect most of our lives whether we are aware of it or not.
