While the ring donuts might be thought of as a very Western thing, it seems lots of other areas have similar sugary fried bread foods in their culture. Even Mongolians have their own donut equivalent, called boortseg. Sometimes with sugar, sometimes without. Donut icing or filling though, that's a pretty new thing here. You can find those kinds of donuts in a few shops here, but they're rather expensive... well over $1 each. But since I'm on a low-carb diet most days, it's a moot point for me anyway!
