This lad committed suicide after been labelled a rapist for a supposed 'non-physical assault'(I don't know what that means). The said accuser who goes by the twitter handle @nanichianese took to her timeline to tweet that the supposed party had engaged in the non-physical sexual assault of an anonymous victim and proceeded to add his name on a list dedicated for rapists.
The said lady without any legal backing has been compiling a list of supposed sexual offenders (well it's social media and everyone has a voice and can do whatever they want to do).
After several attempts to clear his name which the accuser failed to acknowledge, the lad took his life.
Here was her responsive earlier today:
My personal opinion:
I think she deserves to be locked up for a very long time, so she can reflect and heal.
Prior to this incident, if you had tried to engage this said lady in an objective conversation regarding her actions she would have tagged you a misogynist or enablers of the rape culture. Now she has blood on her hands. For someone without any authorisation or expertise, engaging in such an act is very nefarious and social media has armed many faux experts with a platform and mob to perpetrate such evil. I honestly have no sympathy for her.
I believe in free speech and I also believe in being responsible for your words which also means facing the consequence of your actions or words. Freedom without responsibility is a myth or a luxury many hope to have but will never be a reality. Freedom in itself isn't absolute. So yes, I believe Nani should be locked up for a long time and unlike her, I don't deem it to be my responsible or is it in my place to determine her fate, there are institutions for that--that's the essence of law and order.
Rape and sexual assault are too important for random people to determine who is innocent or not, especially when there is no proof to back the accusation. it is grossly naive to take the word of people just because you've been in a similar situation. You don't even understand your own bias in situations like this, that is why there are agencies for things like this.
I am really saddened by this issue. it reminds me of all our prejudice towards people based on the colour of their skin, gender, tribe, or personal experience rather than facts. Every day I have more reasons to give up on humanity. We can do better. We should stop pandering for twitter/social-media points. Do better.
Rest in Peace Izu. I do not know you but your life mattered and you shouldn't have gone this way. The society we live in has failed. I honestly hope you are in a better place.
