As a father of two, one of the most important moments for me is coming back home to family. I did not have that I most definitely would be depressed because outside my family (and maybe football) there are very little things that give me enjoy.
I work in a club, and I see, to some extent, what a single life does to people. Most older people who should be at home with family are in the club looking for connections, the often never really find. They might not be isolated physically, but mentally and it shows (in the way they drink, move, etc)
Social media is a distraction (from the fact that people are genuinely isolated) but also being in the crowd can also be equally distracting. Real connection is often close/personally and in most cases can only be achieved through close friendship or partnership, which a family provides.
