For the last few days, many have been speaking or dreaming about making life-challenging money from cryptocurrency after the market saw some positive price actions, coupled with the rumours of Bitcoin ETF proposals being approved by SEC. It is a beautiful thing to see people happy again about cryptocurrency, however, I am not so particular about billions or even trillions of dollars coming into crypto.
"We are all here for the money"
There is an assumption or narrative propagated by many in this space about cryptocurrency, blockchain and Web 3 that rubs me the wrong way. I was on a rant about improving the quality and quantity of on-chain interactions the other day and someone responded to my thread and said something along the lines of just wanting to make money from the space and how that is the primary objective of everyone on the blockchain. What he does fail to realize is that we are all here for different reasons
I have said countless times in the past that I do enjoy writing and earning on Hive is only an add-on and I believe many people share my sentiment. I was writing blogs before I discovered Hive and I still believe I would be doing the same if Hive did exist. Creating content is more important to me than making money. If I had it my way, I would love to do this as a hobby because it is fun for me. So I want to make it clear that it isn't solely about money.
I do not care about cryptocurrency as much as some of you do. This doesn't give me any superior moral grounds. I care more about Hive than I do about cryptocurrency because Hive offers more than just a coin. It gives ordinary individuals a platform to speak and connect with the world through their services, and it is rewarding. There are many people who I know personally whose lives have changed thanks to Hive. This is why I have a strong attachment to the blockchain.
It is a shame that many people do not see this platform for what it is--a haven for creative expression and free speech. People fail to realise that this blockchain has empowered so many lives. For someone like myself who is actively living his dream as a creative on the blockchain, this is more than I can ever ask for.
Hive to me is something present. I am not waiting 10-50 years into the future to live my hive dream, I am doing it right now. This doesn't mean I am financially free. I still have my struggle but I do believe in due time that will be a thing of the past. With proper investment and growth, I can get to a point when Hive is solely a passion project for me.
It is still possible to make money and do the right thing. These two things are not mutually exclusive. You can be an active community member and still make money on chain; you can improve the quality of your content so it's more engaging and still make money. Making money on Hive is just one thing, it is not everything.
For SocialFI to grow we need many good creators who want to improve the social experience on Hive while making money off the platform because they know that their earnings will grow if we individually improve our input. Use the technology; enjoy the technology; learn about the technology. You can have a wholesome experience on Hive if you give it a chance. Remember we collectively own this blockchain and it is in our best interest to put our best foot forward. Cheers!
