The modern world is such a strange place. It changes quickly without warning and is chaotic when you think about it deeply. A business you start today might become obsolete the following year. So, you find many young people trying to reinvent themselves every now and then to keep up with trends, knowing they are a new invention away from becoming jobless.
I have been trying to break into the tech industry for the past two years unsuccessfully. It is still something I am still pursuing passively because I am aware that technology is disrupting different industries, and it would be silly to dismiss this potent threat to my livelihood. There is absolutely nothing I can do about this trend, so the least I can do is grow with the trend.
However, as a content creator who has been active for almost a decade, I do not want to forgo my job to reinvent it totally. It is not only difficult but the competition in the space is becoming increasingly tough. In addition, there is no real motivation to get into this space aside from money, which isn’t a strong incentive for me. Money can be made by doing the things I genuinely care about.
BUILDING MY LIFE AROUND MY PASSION.
I have decided to tread the road of a creative, which thankfully is still lucrative although highly competitive. I do enjoy some leverage in my space in web3, and I can grow from where I am today. This is one of the reasons I quit my business to come back fully into this space. I see the unique opportunity to grow from where I am currently, and that is a challenge I am willing to embark on.
So my advice to people who are thinking about changing their career path is, maybe you should put a pause on that idea and review where you are currently. Are there people in your current industry doing well? What would it take to get to their level of success? These are important questions we can ask ourselves to help us think deeply about our career path.
WORKING WITH THE TECHNOLOGY OF TODAY
Now, there is nothing wrong with trying new things. However, it is important to question your motives. Time is precious, and when you invest yourself in something without clarity, it is easy to fall short. In worse cases, you find yourself in a loop where you are trying and failing for an extended period of time, which could have been channelled into that thing you are good at.
Also, for those afraid of Robots/AI taking over their jobs, I think there is a nice spot where technology and humanity meet, and it is your duty to find that equilibrium. Contrary to popular opinion, humans still play an important role in the world today and possibly tomorrow. We all need to find how best to develop a symbiotic relationship with the technology of today.
For instance, it is becoming increasingly easy to put out quality content as a creator with the help of AI. I use ChatGPT to edit my content and research topics I want to discuss on my blogs. I can also use ChatGPT to repurpose my content for other social platforms, which gives me more reach. This would have been impossible years ago or would have required an extra pair of hands to achieve. This goes to show how we can integrate new technologies into our lives.
CONCLUSION
If you are contemplating changing career paths or reinventing yourself, it is important to review where you are. Most times, what needs to change is your approach to your career and how you operate in your industry.
