Strategy (from Greek στρατηγία stratēgia, "art of troop leader; office of general, command, generalship") is a general plan to achieve one or more long-term or overall goals under conditions of uncertainty.

There are four(4) things to highlight here:
- A plan
- Long term
- Consistency
- Uncertainty
A Plan
A plan is not a wish or desire or want. It is a calculated series of steps taken to achieve a goal or wish. So wanting to make money or form new relationships isn't a plan but a wish. How you go about achieving these wants or desires is your plan.
Many people come on hive wanting to make money--I think that's the primary goal. They examine the chain on a surface level and try to replicate the actions of some of the top earners, one of which is to write consistently in certain groups and communities and often pander to those with dip pockets. Nine(9) out of ten(10) times this plan fails (woefully).
To achieve meaningful results, you need to understand first the environment. Who are these people? What motivates them? How can I contribute to their overall growth and meet some of their expectations? For instance, you join a community and you discover their primary need is ideas. By providing those said ideas you become an integral part of that circle and over time that creates more opportunities for you.
The second step is to determine your strength and how it can contribute to the overall growth of the chain and community. For instance, I will say my major asset on the hive is time--I have a lot of it (to give) and I can channel it to places where it's needed and gain traction. This might include engaging (on and off the chain); project management and development, etc these are the things I can do with my time. If you try to replicate my activity without having the same or similar amount of time (and skill), you might fall short (most likely). So the point is finding what you can do well and finding who needs it on the chain.
Consistency
Sticking to your plan is one of the key recipes to success both on the hive and every other sphere in life. You need to trust the process and yourself. Many people make the mistake of ditching their plans to join the bandwagon at the slightest chance. Today they are chasing NFTs, tomorrow DeFi, the next is something else. Now, don't get me wrong, it is not an issue to explore, but it is safer when you have a solid fountain to build and branch out from.
Being consistent affords you the chance to leverage opportunities when they come. Opportunities are often a product of chance and to turn the odds in your favour you must play the same game over time. For instance, I was blogging for 4 years before I joined hive. I believed that it would turn into a profitable endeavour at some point even though I did not know how or when. However, when hive did show up I was quick to recognize the opportunity. My consistency met with chance and that was the game-changer for me.
Long Term
Every plan needs time to be actualized. Every good plan needs enough time to come to fruition. Unfortunately, not everyone has that time to be consistent, thus, are unable to create results. Many individuals are consistent but not long enough to get the required result they want.
I consider the 'long term' to be any time frame above 4 years. Now, for some people, this might be shorter, but that shouldn't be your concern. Unfortunately, we live in a world where people are more concerned about results than the process. Recently I was sharing my hive story with a bunch of people and they found it inspiring. Many may not understand that it took four years of my life to be able to speak confidently about hive. How many people are willing to put in that time and effort into anything these days?
Uncertainty
Here is the part that will break your heart: nothing is guaranteed. There is no guarantee that this post will get upvote; there is no guarantee that I will get comments on this post; there is no guarantee that hive will be here tomorrow. How you process this information will determine your journey and attitude on hive.
As much as I feel like an integral part of this network, I do not believe it owes me anything. I consider hive to be a gift (that keeps giving) and whatever I get from it is a plus, especially as a content creator. If I wanted more certainty I would the play 2 earn community, but this is what I love.
I love this space called hive, for what it stands for and how it has impacted my life so I approach it differently than most people do. The more I grow here the less I am critical about this space because I have a level of understanding of how difficult it is to build anything and am more concerned about my contribution.
In conclusion, if you are struggling with hive or anything generally, I think applying these simple principles will help you navigate better and guide you through difficult and confusing times. I recently had to go to the drawing board as well, to realign my strategy with my long-term plans.
Everyone needs a plan (not a wish).
