This is my entry into the POB-WOTW contest, an initiative by @calumam. For more information on this week's theme, Eureka, click here.
My most memorable eureka moment occurred 4years ago on campus in the most unusual place and why. I have shared this story in the past but for the benefit of those who haven't read it, I will share again.
Before 2015, I used to write--for fun--on my blog. It wasn't anything spectacular. I considered it a hobby of some sort. However, I got decent reviews from friends and fans about my writing, which in retrospect wasn't so great.
So I decided to take writing a bit more seriously. I moved from writing opinion pieces and poetry to storytelling. I sucked at it but for some strange reason people did like it and followed my series, so I continued.
I wanted to monetize my content but I had no clue on how to go about it. In my mind, I was going to build a sizable following on Twitter and leverage on that--so I thought.
Unfortunately, I got into uni and things took a u-turn. I had abandoned my blog and dream for a degree I was indifferent about. Plus, I sort of lost my way during my first year in uni. Fortunately, a series of unfortunate events straightened me, thankfully.
My second year in uni was properly my worst. I was dead broke, was in and out of campus. Unbeknown to me, I was going to have an encounter; a eureka moment that will change my life forever.
On my way to the FoodCourt, I met an old flatmate I hadn't seen for over a year. We exchanged pleasantries and without beating much around the bush he introduced this supposed magic internet money I could earn for writing.
I did not need much convincing. I had found what I was looking for. I got home that day and signed up for hive. It took about two weeks to get my account, @nonz, which I lost (a hassle most newbies will never experience).
In retrospect, I believe my encounter with my friend was a divine moment. I could have passed on the opportunity to join hive as I have done with other opportunities in the past but this was different. I knew I had found what I was looking for…
IT IS ALL FUGAZI…
My journey into the crypto space has been filled with many light-bulb moments. I was reading a post this morning that reminded me of one of my major realisations in life which deconstructed my idea of money--the link isn't very direct.
Fundamentally, I see money as a tool. This wasn’t always the case. Prior to this time, I used to think having money was an achievement (it still is to a lot of people) and this is mainly reinforced by society. However, being in this sphere has exposed me to things and people I would ordinarily not have access to which has forced me to re-evaluate my value system.
One of the major light-bulb moments was discovering that I could create value out of my experience, ideas, time and relationships. I have navigated through life a lot easier since then.
