HIVE is inherently more volatile and therefore harder to plan around, and you are 100% right about being exclusively crypto. However, HIVE "value" is tied more to USD than it is BTC. During the latest BTC/USD run we saw HIVE tank the same amount. People don't care how much inter-crypto value it has, only what value it has to FIAT.
I don't like it, and since I still can't actually USE my BTC for anything I've been selling during this run so I can buy a camera. There isn't much use for a crypto that you can't use to exchange for anything.
Which circles me back to why I think HBD is so important. While the future is likely versions of the crypto we have today, we can't use BTC, HIVE, etc to pay the internet or power, we need FIAT for that. For better or worse, USD is still the main reserve currency of the world, so working to have HBD pegged to it is very helpful.
I would like to see a tighter peg, where supply is regulated more aggressively to manage this, but that second token layer, in my opinion is needed.
