Establecer un buen diagnóstico es totalmente vital para que el paciente pueda tener el mejor tratamiento por lo que siempre debemos recurrir a todos los exámenes complementarios que nos permite llegar a un mejor diagnóstico, por lo que los modelos de estudios son ideales para poder conocer la mordida, tipo de arco y la oclusión que posee nuestros pacientes, para poder ir observándo un antes y después del paciente, lo modelos estudio se utilizan en diversas ramas de Odontología como la odontopediatría, ortopedia y ortodoncia, rehabilitación protesico, como también estética, nos permite el modelo de estudio la elaboración de coronas previamente antes de ser llevado a la cavidad bucal ya que es la reproducción exacta de los dientes, también de estructuras duras y blandas de cavidad bucal.

Los modelos de estudio no son mas que copias totalmente exactas de los tejidos duros y blandos de la cavidad bucal, ellos nos van a permitir una adecuada evaluación delos arcos dentarios de nuestros pacientes, la morfología que puede tener cada diente así como también las diversas anomalías de posición como la extrusión intrusión, rotación, transposición, visión, como también las diversas inclinaciones axiales que pueden tener los dientes. También conocer el examen de oclusión en relación molar y también canina de los dientes, los modelos de estudio tienen gran importancia y mas para el área de odontopediatría, por lo que siempre se debe discutir el mismo, puesto que en los niños debido a su edad los dientes pueden tener distintas variaciones en cuanto a sus arcos dentarios.

Los modelos de estudios es gran medio que nos permite darle explicación al paciente de todos los diversos tratamientos que se le realizarán así como también el pueda observar el estado en el que se encuentran cada uno de los dientes, también a los mismos se le pueden realizar diversas modificaciones en cera para rehabilitación bucal, esto dependerá del tratamiento que se le vaya a realizar al paciente, para realizar este modelo de estudio necesitamos una serie de instrumental así como también materiales que nos permiten obtener la tomas de impresión y el vaciado final.

Primeramente para obtener un modelo de estudio, debemos tomar la impresión y esto lo vamos a realizar con alginato para obtener una impresión en negativo de estos téjidos, este material es un hidrocoloide irreversible obtenido de las algas marinas que no recupera su estado original, para luego hacer el vaciado del mismo con yeso dental, una vez que alginato ya copie todos los téjidos en negativos, lo hará el yeso en positivo y tendremos como resultado nuestro modelo de impresión cabe destacar que siempre debemos conocer el adecuado funcionamiento de estos materiales para que obtengamos un buen modelo sin errores.
