Again, Happy New Year and Welcome to 2018! I think that one of the main reasons why I am so excited about this year is because I have a game plan. A REAL one. Yes, I created a vision board and yes I am naturally a dreamer as a Pisces but I realized it was time to buckle down and truly put actions behind my vision, dreams, and goals.
As synchronicity would have it, I walked into my coding program yesterday morning and spent 1.5 hours going over a proper work plan. We were all required to create a work plan and have it reviewed by the end of the day. I received some awesome feedback and would like to share it with you all here.
Regardless if your goal is to become a kickass web developer or simply a kickass person, I recommend you taking a moment to plan. As one of my favorite quotes goes, "if you fail to plan then you plan to fail." And if you are like, "come on LaToya that is a bit extreme..." Okay... How about, "proper planning prevents poor performance?" A healthy balance!
Failure Prevention:
Let's take just ONE larger goal you may have...
1. Create an overview/mission statement.
- "I would like to accomplish (xyz) goal by (xyz) time. Accomplishing this goal will allow me to feel (xyz) and get me one step closer to living my best life NOW. I will trust the process and know that planting daily seeds will allow me to reap the harvest I desire."
2. Get specific!
Let's say you would like to have a healthier lifestyle. What does that look like?
- "I would like to weigh (xyz)."
- "I would like to become pescatarian."
- "I would like to work out more."
- "I would like to have clear skin, healthy hair, and long nails."
- "I would like to meditate and spend more time out in nature."
The list could go on and on but get specific and list key points.
3. Implement a plan
Put on your brainstorming cap and get down to the nitty gritty details. Let's take a look at what that may look like from our example above.
- How may pounds would you need to lose/gain to get down to your ideal weight?
- Now break that number down to days/weeks
- What sort of meals do pescatarians eat?
- Create a meal plan with some of your favorite meals
- Be sure to shop for those items on the list on your next trip to the market
- How may times a week would you like to work out?
- Review your schedule and see which days and times work best for you
- Research gyms near your home or place of work
- Can't find a reasonably priced gym? Look into some apps or free online avenues
- Do you need to schedule an appointment with the dermatologist for your skin care needs?
- Do you need to schedule an appointment with a cosmetologist for your haircare needs?
- Do you need to schedule an appointment with a manicurist for your nail goals?
- Research natural remedies to help you achieve your healthy skin, hair, and nail goals
- How long would you like to meditate and spend time out in nature each day/week/month?
- Will you be meditating alone or with someone?
- Will the sessions be guided or freeform?
- How long will each session be?
Again, the list can go on and on but you must implement a plan that you will actually put to work.
Do what works for you! Just figure out what works. My motto is, "to do what is rooted in love and not fear." Fear can be crippling or a tricky instigator. You'll know the difference between a fear based goal and a loved based one via your intuition.
Go forth and be great folks! Cheers to 2018 - XOXO
