My most embarrassing moment || Ladies of Hive Contest #149
Recounting embarrassing experiences in our lives might not always be pleasant. The world is full of ups and downs; today we might experience something pleasant; tomorrow, it might be something unusual. As humans, we are bound to encounter varieties of emotions and moments, from being happy, sad, awkward, and some embarrassing moments that are not left out. So far, I have had my fair share of intriguing moments in my life, and at the same time, I've also had some experiences that were embarrassing to the point where I felt like crawling under a rock and never coming out.
I have a friend who has been married for 5 years without a child. Fortunately for her, God blessed her with a baby boy three months ago. However, immediately after she conceived, she left Lagos, Nigeria, where we both reside, for another state in her mom's home, so she could get all the care she needed from her mom during her pregnancy journey. All through her pregnancy period, we were both communicating, and I was waiting for that day to receive the news of her delivery and behold her newborn baby. The day came, and being excited about the news was an understatement. I expressed my joy and prayed for her and the child over the phone. I then inquired to know when they would be back in Lagos State, Nigeria, so I could carry the baby in excitement, and she told me that it would be on August 1, 2023. She later sent an IV to her child's dedication and pleaded for my presence.
The child dedication took place on the 6th of August 2023, as you can see in the IV above. That was a few weeks ago. I converted some of my cryptocurrencies to naira. I packaged my money gift 馃巵 to the baby in an envelope and put it in my back pocket..I was wearing jean trousers馃憱. During the reception, invited guests turned up showing appreciation through money and other baby items. There was plenty of food and drinks from the host. I carried the baby for a long time, admiring him and taking shots with him.
I ate and drank too; it was nice merriment. Just before I wanted to take my leave, in excitement, I dipped my hands in my jean pocket to remove my money gift, and lo and behold, it was nowhere to be found. I searched all four pockets in the jean trousers I was wearing; in fact, I almost naked myself in the midst of people searching for this money. Where could it be? What happened? I was sure I had it saved in my pocket. It was so embarrassing, after eating and drinking, carrying the baby, and watching others gift the new baby, and I had nothing to give to the child. After many phone calls to mom in excitement to behold her child after 5 years of waiting for pregnancy, Hmmm, I felt like the ground should open and swallow me at that moment.
It was so embarrassing, and I felt maybe they would think I never planned to gift the baby. Well, I explained to the mom about the loss of the baby gift as I planned. I didn't have fiat in my bank account on that day; I would have done a bank transfer for them. However, I covered my face and dragged myself to my home, searching for this money to no avail. To clear my shame, I went to the market after some days, bought some baby materials, visited them again at home, and handed the gift to the baby. Perhaps if I had chosen to put the money in my handbag, it would have been saved; it was just a lesson I learned from that embarrassing experience.
