The first lesson I learned in the world of cryptocurrencies was: If you don't have full control of your keys they are not your cryptocurrencies, unfortunately I learned this after Bittrex denied me access to my account and funds because of my nationality. Later this arbitrariness was joined by the company PundiX, a cryptocurrency payment service through its wallet, which denies me access to my account because of my nationality (the famous KYC).
Obviously I was not going to wait for it to happen to me again for the third time so I decided to withdraw my funds from Uphold and Binance before they joined the boycott, not against my country but against me because of my birth origin. Since then I became self-custodian of my own funds with a separate cold wallet or app, where only I know what is in it and absolutely no one will be able to stop me from manipulating my digital money as I please.
I feel that there are many people who take for granted that their BTC, altcoins, tokens or NFT are well guarded if they keep them in centralized wallets, but nothing could be further from the truth, large corporations show a great interest in controlling the cryptocurrency market, especially BTC, so they first induce in the public opinion the idea that decentralized digital currencies are insecure and require state control to avoid illegal activities such as money laundering or drug trafficking.
Recently I read an article where an institution called Financial Action Task Force, (FATF / GAFI), which is a body created by the G8 (the seven richest countries in the world plus Russia) In one of its sections, the entity suggests prohibiting transactions to private wallets (P2P self-custodians) from exchanges or centralized crypto-asset service providers (Uphold, Binance, Bittrex, Kraken, banks, among others), as a formula to retain and control the funds of anyone anywhere in the world if, in the name of the fight against terrorism and drugs, they so decide.
According to FATF, it is "suggested to deny license to VASPs if they allow transactions to/from non-obligated entities (i.e. private/non-hosted wallets) to accept transactions only from/to other VASPs". This means that only transactions directed between centrally authorized wallets will have value if the funds remain in the custody of institutions linked to them.
Although it is not yet something concrete, there is a possibility that at some point they will apply this rule as part of the so-called great global reset or the Agenda 2030, a kind of future plan where the great central powers intend to reshape the global economic system towards a form of fiat 2.0 model. It is evident that there is a kind of acceptance towards cryptocurrencies by the elites, for this reason they need to control this form of economy making it more dependent on the central power system.
In these difficult times governments need money and nothing better than BTC to take those funds that are escaping from the fiat trap; first they start by forcing crypto financial service providers to ask for our personal data (KYC), the next stage will be to outlaw P2P transactions and later to collect taxes for transactions that take place within the system they dominate.
For these reasons projects like Hive become so necessary in the crypto world, because this community is a space where you can exercise total control of your money without "Big Brother" intervening. I think we are on the right track, someday the Hive ecosystem will create its own decentralized DeFi zone dispensing with the need to use centralized platforms, much more secure and independent. The important thing is that this social network is willing to take on the challenge and its community is more than willing to face the freedom to monetize content without worrying about being persecuted or censored.
