We often say in an exaggerated way that today's children are born already knowing about technology given the ease with which they handle every gadget that emerges every second to "facilitate" our lives.
It is not that they are born knowing how to handle electronic devices, the situation is that more and more children are practically raised by our smartphones, tablets and smart TVs. Of course whenever infants cry, run indoors or feel bored glass-faced nannies appear to the parental rescue.
Modern adult life demands almost all our time and effort to the detriment of the dedication we could give to the family space and even more to the kids, who spend more hours watching Youtube, Netflix or Amazon Prime than anything else in life, even the blackboard at school.
It is not that my generation is a social example of how to raise children if we consider that the TV was the surrogate mother and even the most beloved relative in the house, however when we went to the beach, the park or to play in the square the babysitter of the glass face stayed at home so the bikes, balls, jump ropes and dolls became in those moments our best allies of fun and entertainment. It was very difficult to take out to the street a monster of 6 kilograms and 32 inches plus the antenna, without considering that it is necessary to have an electric power source for our "beloved one" full of tubes and wires to do its magic.
It is true, it is understood that because of Covid-19 children and adults must be at home practically 24/7 complying with the rules of physical distance, however the squares and parks were already absent of infants prior to the pandemic, even before this global situation at the time of walking with the kids the glass nanny is also part of the entertainment implements and in some cases the only one. Children don't run and play anymore, they stay static with their rectangular gadgets in front of their faces illuminated by the screens. I think the only way to see them run is when their batteries run out and they have to go after a plug or in the race for a wifi signal.
It's hard to think of a world without technology but it's also sad to imagine a generation without imagination or spontaneous creativity, like little zombies.
