Dentists! Some people don't mind them, some don't like them and some just downright fear them. However, they are necessary in our world, so I say why fight it?
In the last few months, I have had to have 2 teeth pulled. The only 2 teeth missing in my mouth. Both of them had big holes in them and both of them had me in pain.
Here is the story of tooth #1.
The first, second to the last tooth right side bottom, was very loose but not loose enough that I could pull it out myself. I tried, but that sucker just would not come out. I went by my usual dentist, but she was not there. I was told I should come back in the afternoon. Forget that! That tooth was in extreme pain. I rode around a bit, and being Sunday, it looked like I was not going to find another dentist.
I was about to give up when I noticed a young lady unlocking the door to a dentist office. I'm assuming she is the receptionist. We had already passed by 2 times, but I'm glad I decided to try again. I went in, but the dentist wasn't there. As I was walking out, the dentist arrived. Fate? At first, he didn't want to pull it because he could be a lot of trouble. I told him that it was really loose already but just not loose enough to do it myself. He agreed to look at it.
After the examination he was able to pull it out without a problem. No nova cane was necessary and there was no pain. He pulled it very quickly (as I said it was already very loose). I didn't even know he had pulled it already and he was showing me the tooth. It only had 1 root left. I kept the tooth and put it in a plastic baggie with some alcohol. The tooth does not look as big as the hole in my mouth felt.
The cost for having to have this tooth pulled, on a Sunday, at the last minute, was only 1000 pesos. That's about $20 US. Actually, according to the latest exchange rate, it comes out to $18.20. Now that is a good price to pay to keep me out of pain.
In the aftermath I thought it was going to be harder to chew my food without a tooth there. Remember it's my first one missing as an adult and I don't remember the last time I was missing a tooth. Turns out it's not such a big deal. I hardly even notice when eating. Well, sometimes food gets stuck in there, but it comes out very easily. I have not tried to eat any steak since the tooth came out, but I don't get steak that often these days anyway.
Now another tooth is giving me a problem. It seems it's always something. The tooth #2 story will be posted tomorrow.
