This year we were lucky to have bullfinches. As soon as the cold came, they immediately appeared at the edge of the forest. There are many burdocks and trees with seeds in the form of petals. This is the favorite food of bullfinches. They could be seen on burdock stalks and tree branches. They ate their seeds with pleasure. They flew in small flocks of 5-7 individuals.
Sometimes they could be seen sitting motionless on the branches of trees. Maybe they slept in this way or rested after flying over trees and bushes.
As a rule, there were 3-4 females and 2-3 males in the flock. Sometimes 2-3 males or females could be found.
Although spring is already in full swing, during the day the temperature rises to 6 degrees Celsius, but bullfinches have not yet flown away.
Females are easy to distinguish by the lighter color of the plumage on the abdomen. They can often be found digging through last year's fallen leaves.
They are probably looking for insects to eat among the foliage.
If you do not make sudden movements, then you can get pretty close to them. But as soon as they move, one of the birds makes a loud sound and all the birds immediately fly into the branches of nearby trees.
