There is a large Portuguese-speaking community in Johannesburg and many people continue traditions from their home country by tiling their walls with Azulejo
This picture was taken in the fairly poor inner-city suburb of Bertrams in Johannesburg, very near to where I live.
While I would have liked to take a closer shot, doing things like that isn't always well-received in this community and it's also very possible that you may get mugged if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was on my Suzuki sv650s motorcycle when I stopped to take this shot and very quickly found myself surrounded by a horde of curious children, ranging from age 2 to 14, all of whom were keen to sit on my bike, try on the helmet and sit on the seat to see whether they could reach the handlebars. Quite a few could not but they all had fun trying.
