Friday Chronicles. / Monomad Challenge [Eng/Esp]

I set my alarm for 6:00 a.m., trying not to wake up my sister and my nephews, because they automatically get in a bad mood. I make coffee to start the day with positive energy and check the weather forecast. Then—and only then—am I ready to head out.

Pongo el despertador a las 6:00 h, intentando no despertar a mi hermana y a mis sobrinos, porque se ponen de mal humor automáticamente. Hago café para comenzar el día con energías positivas y consulto el parte meteorológico. Entonces y solo entonces estoy listo para salir a la calle.

I like to say hello to people, and if I don’t know them, even better—that way I have the chance to connect with them and get their permission to take their photos. Although there’s always someone who’s negative, at least from a distance I can take advantage of the shadows cast by the scene.

Me gusta saludar a la gente y, si no la conozco, mejor, porque así tienes la oportunidad de empatizar y que te dejen hacerles fotos. Aunque siempre hay alguien que se muestra negativo, al menos a la distancia tengo la oportunidad de aprovechar las sombras que da la escena.

I don’t waste a single moment; I can’t linger on the street, whether because I might get mugged or because the perfect photo could be anywhere.

No pierdo ni un instante, no me puedo entretener en la calle, ya sea porque te asaltan o porque en cualquier lugar puede estar la foto.

Every day it gets harder to find the same number of people on the street that you used to see a few months ago.

Cada día se hace más difícil encontrar la cantidad de personas que se veía en la calle hace algunos meses.

I love watching how the wind moves the sheets on the balconies.

Me encanta ver cómo el viento mueve las sábanas en los balcones.

After a couple of hours, I have a snack to keep my energy up, because the sun is already very strong and I need to be ready—I’m one of those people who tries to make the most of my time on the street.

Pasadas un par de horas, meriendo algo para tener fuerzas, porque ya el sol está muy fuerte y hay que estar listo, ya que soy de los que trata de aprovechar al máximo el tiempo en la calle.

I always learn a lot and gain valuable insights and wonderful experiences every time I go out, especially from interacting with people, and that’s how my vision as a street photographer takes shape. Siempre aprendo mucho y tengo grandes enseñanzas y lindas experiencias cada vez que salgo, sobre todo del contacto con la gente, y así se va formando mi visión como fotógrafo callejero.
