As well as this, you also need a boss who understands that you have these feelings too and you need to be able to vent them as it is a major part of keeping healthy working relationships. Although a lot of bosses seem to understand, many are not.

Empathy is about being able to understand others and their feelings. It is the ability to feel other people's emotions and what drives them. Learning to be self-aware is essential if you want to understand others and build effective relationships.

Self-awareness is about learning how to understand yourself. It requires that you reflect on how you think, your emotions and how you respond to certain situations. By doing this you can start to develop and improve your emotional intelligence.

Self-awareness also leads to self-monitoring and improved self-leadership. If you're happy with your position at work then you will naturally be happier and more productive than if you are miserable.

Self-awareness allows you to get into a feedback loop with others where you are actually observing them as they behave and react to certain situations. You can then adjust your behaviour accordingly and relate to people better.

Being self-aware means that you are always thinking about the other person's perspective and how they might be interpreting things. This is invaluable in helping others understand themselves and their feelings, improving communication and understanding.

The more comfortable you are with the other person, the more likely you are to create a lasting business partnership. Emotional awareness also leads us to believe that other people want to be treated fairly and have equal opportunities in life, regardless of gender, status, ethnicity, religion, race or sexual orientation. This applies equally to bosses and employees.

It is important to be able to "put aside" personal feelings and focus fully on the thoughts and perceptions of others. If you do not learn to do this then you will never be able to understand others or their feelings, and cannot therefore develop true empathy.

People need to be understood, otherwise they will withdraw and some people will never feel understood again. Being able to connect with others and understand their thoughts and feelings is the first step towards developing true compassion and empathy.

Empathy and compassion are important because they are two sides of the same coin - they go hand in hand. When we understand another person's feelings and thoughts we also understand their thinking and their ability to reason and plan.

When you really understand someone, you form an intimate relationship, one that is based on true understanding, which can only happen when you both share your thoughts and feelings.

The more you understand another person's thoughts and emotions, the more you can anticipate their next move and adjust your actions accordingly. This kind of awareness is what will make you an excellent teacher and a great manager.

When you understand others and their feelings you are tapping into the very foundation of emotional intelligence. Then you can instruct, motivate, and lead by example...and without being afraid of your feelings.

While there is a strong correlation between our ability to manage and lead, there is also a strong correlation between how we handle our own feelings and how effectively we can teach others. If you don't experience deep feelings, you won't have the ability to motivate or inspire others.

However, if you do have those wonderful feelings then you will be able to effectively communicate them via action. This powerful combination of powerful emotions and the ability to communicate them effectively is what has made some of the best leaders in the world.

Consider for a moment that each of us has a unique inner strength that is built up by years of learning, experience, and maturity. We also each possess a unique inner strength and capability for empathy, which is what allows us to be empathetic towards others.

This emotional awareness that we all have is what allows some of the best leaders in the world to lead even when they are overwhelmed with feelings of anger, hurt, and hate, all of which can be felt in their emotions. What then does one do when they are faced with this overwhelming feeling? They allow those feelings to rule their lives, and as a result they never achieve any sort of meaningful success in their endeavors.

To master the art of empathy and emotional awareness, you need to learn how to master the ability to self-monitor your own feelings. By doing this you will gain an enormous benefit over others in both your personal and business relationships because you will be able to better understand how they are feeling and why they are feeling it.

You will also understand why you tend to react in certain ways to situations in which you may not have originally been aligned with the other party involved. These new and unique perspectives will enable you to understand and overcome many of the challenges that you will face as you journey through life. Empathy and self-awareness are the key to building successful relationships and accomplishing any goal that you set yourself
