The Xanadu Mansion: A portrait of the golden age in Cuba.
Hello everyone in this great Community of Pinmapple, in this post I show you one of my favorite visits in Varadero, Cuba.
The Xanadu Mansion, also known as the Dupont Mansion, is a historic residence located in Varadero, Cuba. It was built in the 1920s by Irenee Du Pont, an American industrialist and member of the influential Du Pont family. The mansion is an impressive example of Spanish colonial architecture and is located in a beautiful environment facing the sea.
Xanadu became a symbol of luxury and extravagance in its time, with a large swimming pool, a golf course and large gardens. The mansion also served as a meeting place for celebrities and influential people who visited Varadero during the golden age of tourism in Cuba.
After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the Xanadu Mansion became the property of the Cuban government as the majority of the properties of foreigners and was transformed into a golf club and restaurant known as “Varadero Golf Club”. Over the years, it has been restored and preserved as a testimony to the rich history of Varadero and its glamorous past. It is currently a 3-star hotel that can be booked from abroad, and a huge golf course for the enjoyment of tourists. The house itself is still a luxury and takes you back to that time when it was built.
Whenever I go to Varadero I visit that place, its location and architecture are impressive. Today, the Xanadu Mansion remains an emblematic place that evokes the elegance and charm of the Cuba of yesteryear, and is a mandatory stop for visitors who want to explore the history and beauty of Varadero.
