Hello to this great community of Pinmapple.. This publication excites me since it is one of my favorite places in Havana. I hope you like it.
The cathedral of San Cristobal in Havana, better known as the Cathedral of Old Havana, is a Catholic temple located in the oldest area of the Cuban capital. This construction from 1748 is considered one of the most beautiful in the American Baroque, declared by UNESCO a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1982.
This 18th-century construction is under the devotion of the Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception. The cobblestone square bears its name: Plaza de la Catedral, and it is surrounded by mansions of the colonial Cuban nobility: The house of the Marquis of Aguas Claras, palace of the Marquis of Arcos, house of the Counts of Casa Bayona that is currently a Museum of Colonial Art and the best known and famous Bodeguita el Medio: home of the Cuban Mojito.
This Cathedral is a jewel, in which the remains of Cristobal Colon lay until 1898, when they were transferred to Spain. That place breathes Cuba, its history, its people, it is magical to enter that square and see its architecture, see the painters, musicians and women of black complexion with the typical Cuban costumes that give a special and unique touch to that place, is to move to the ancient Cuba of the Marqueses and Counts, simply beautiful.
